Road closed 09.00 hours to 17.00 hours daily

Unfortunately due to several members of one of our sub contract crews being forced to isolate because of Covid-19, this is now having an impact on  works at Noakes Bridge.  Therefore, works will be suspended in the interim but I can confirm that another crew will resume works starting next Monday, 16 November 2020 and are scheduled to be completed by Wednesday, 18 November 2020.

In the meantime, we have instructed our traffic management and civils contractor to carry out regular checks of the site to ensure all signage and any ramping is adequate and remains safe at all times.

A thank you to Herefordshire residents for following the Covid-19 rules

Dear resident

I’d like to thank you for following the Covid-19 rules and underline how important it is for everyone to increase their efforts so we can prevent the virus from overwhelming our community. Adhering to the guidance in the first lockdown proved highly effective in driving down cases of Covid-19 and we can do it again. If we don’t follow the rules, cases will rise and future lockdowns are likely. Nobody wants this.

In recent months significant numbers of people across the UK have failed to self-isolate when required and others have ignored the Covid-19 rules of social distancing, using face coverings and frequent thorough hand washing. This behaviour has led to a rapid rise in cases, a high number of Covid-19 hospital admissions and increasing numbers of seriously ill people. The number of Covid-related deaths across the country has returned to hundreds per day. Tragically, since the pandemic started, 131 Herefordshire residents have died due to the disease.

One of the biggest challenges with this virus is that most people experience mild symptoms, while some have no symptoms at all. But anyone who is Covid-19 positive can spread the virus to others who may then become seriously ill and possibly die. This could be your mum or dad, your grandparents, your friend or work colleague.

That is why we are appealing to everyone in Herefordshire to follow the rules to keep yourself and others in our community safe.

If we all do the right thing, we can stop the infection spreading. We will save businesses, save jobs and above all – save lives.

Public to be surveyed on England’s planning system

The Housing, Communities and Local Government (HCLG) Committee has asked the public to take part in a survey on the planning system in England and the government’s proposed reforms to it.

MPs want to know how the public has used the planning system in the past and how they think it could be improved.

The results will inform the committee’s inquiry into the planning system, which was announced in October. MPs want to know what communities want the system to do, such as encouraging growth, and how to achieve it.

As well as the survey, a public engagement event is being held on 26 November so the public can talk about the planning system with the committee.

Committee chair Clive Betts said: “The planning process has an important role to play in meeting a number of challenges that the country currently faces. In finding solutions to the crisis in housing delivery, ailing high streets and boosting regional growth the planning system will be key. It must also reflect the views and wishes of our local communities and this is why we have launched this survey. As part of our inquiry into the planning system we want to hear your experiences of using the planning system, what has worked well, where it has been found wanting, and how it can be improved. You can take the survey online and we would love to hear your views.”

The consultation for the government’s planning reforms, set out in Planning for the Future, closed on 29 October.

We’ve just heard that MPs will be debating the government’s damaging proposals to deregulate planning on Thursday 8 October – just a few short days away.

Things are happening so fast with this campaign, so we need to be quick to react to opportunities like this.

This debate is the perfect chance to put ministers on the spot and show them just how serious we are.

We know we’ve asked you to do a lot recently, and only a few days ago we asked you to email your MP, but this is a huge moment that we can’t miss.

Will you email your MP now and ask them to attend the debate?

We need as many MPs as possible to turn up and ask tough questions of the government. The more MPs who do so, the harder it will be for ministers to stick to their plans.

Representing you in parliament is part of their job, so they should be happy to go along and raise your concerns.

New winter opening hours for Household Recycling Centres

Household Waste and Recycling Centres in Herefordshire will operate new hours this winter.

From Thursday 1 October 2020, all sites will close at 4pm, except for Ledbury which remains unchanged.

During the winter months when there are fewer daylight hours, public use of the sites decreases, in part due to less garden waste being brought in, and traffic surveys confirm that there is least demand from 4pm onwards each day. The new hours will increase efficiency across our sites and lead to better management of demand, which has allowed us to already open the Ross-on-Wye centre for an additional day each week.

It is important that residents continue to book slots to visit a Household Recycling Centre where required. This can be done online or, for those unable to book online, by contacting the Herefordshire Council customer services team on 01432 260000, who will book a slot for you.

The household recycling centres are only open to Herefordshire residents, and the booking system is in place to ensure the safety of staff by controlling numbers of visitors and prevent queues at sites. Residents can book up to four slots every two weeks and will receive a pass before visiting. An address and vehicle registration number are needed to secure the booking.

Cllr Gemma Davies, Cabinet member for commissioning, procurement and assets, said:

“Thank you for all of your patience during the past few months in our recycling centres and the number of changes that have taken place. During the winter months, the number of people visiting our Household Recycling Centres naturally decreases as people have less waste to dispose of and tend to visit earlier in the day. Closing our centres a little bit earlier means we can operate more effectively across the county.

“We ask that people continue to book online or over the phone because the booking system is a vital way of avoiding congestion and ensuring our sites remain safe and comply with the necessary guidelines. Most importantly, please remember that anyone who is self-isolating or has Covid-19 symptoms must not visit a household recycling centre.”
