We are supporting three national campaigns this week, all with the aim of raising awareness of issues around road safety.
Global UN Road Safety Week, Project EDWARD and the national RoadPeace challenge are all taking place with support from a number of organisations across West Mercia. Road traffic injuries are a leading cause of death and disability worldwide, with around 1.3 million people killed and as many as 50 million people injured each year. Globally, 1 in every 4 deaths occur among pedestrians and cyclists.

Global Road Safety Week focuses on promoting sustainable transport and addressing the road safety issues that surround this.
Project EDWARD is a worldwide campaign that strives to achieve Every Day Without A Road Death. The focus for this year’s campaign is around promoting ‘Safer Mobility’ and how this is a shared responsibility for everyone using the roads.
Now in its third year, the RoadPeace Challenge will also take place during next week. RoadPeace’s mission is to bring together all police forces, Police and Crime Commissioners, the fire service, ambulance crews, NHS, doctors, nurses and other professionals who witness the daily devastation caused by road crashes in the UK, along with victims and bereaved families – to make a united stand against road harm.
